ITV highlights flooding issues with Gleeson Homes developments

Last Thursday(12 Feb), ITV's Tonight programme described serious issues as regards new housing developments and flooding problems.  Floods: New Build Nightmares (ITV Tonight series 28) highlighted developments in both Northumberland and Derbyshire where flooding had arisen apparently due to new housing developments.

In both cases the developer was Gleeson Homes and the programme went on to state that in total there were ten estates where Gleeson had breached planning conditions in respect of surface water flooding.

The relevance for us is that Gleeson Homes is one of the main developers on the proposed Loddon Garden Village/Hall Farm site, where flooding is clearly one of the main challenges needed to be tackled, but can Gleeson be trusted?

As part of its determination on the Gleeson Homes planning application on the Loddon Garden Valley site we would urge the Planning Team at Wokingham Borough Council to look at the ITV programme and consider whether Gleeson Homes can be trusted to fulfil its obligations as regards any planning conditions.

In particular we would urge them to contact the planning teams at Northumberland and Derbyshire County Council's as well as Chesterfield BC, all of whom referred to breaches in planning conditions on flooding or were quoted in the programme as saying that Gleeson Homes were advised on work that needed to be undertaken re flood risk.
